Babies & Books
Early literacy studies have shown that children who are read to from an early age have better language skills, grow up to be better readers, and are more likely to enjoy reading.
When you come to Babies & Books story time you and your infant will be introduced not only to a variety of books, but to songs and rhymes, as well. Repeat these songs and rhymes at home and read to your children every day. The library has a wealth of children's books. For an infant, look for books with bright, bold illustrations and minimal text. Also look at the board book section; these books will stand up to more wear and tear than other books.
For more information on early literacy, visit the Association for Library Service to Children division of the American Library Association. Or visit
PBS Parents Reading and Language.
Babies & Books meets Thursday at 10:30AM.
Upcoming dates:Tuesday, January 10 and Friday, February 24, all at 10 a.m.

Greetings From Emma Weiler, our New Youth Services Librarian: "I come to you after working in the Cambridge Public Library for the past seven years where it was my pleasure to work in the Children's Room and run sing-a longs. I am a recent graduate of the University of Rhode Island, where I majored in Young Adult Services. Besides my library experience, I am a mom of four children, aged 11-16. I'm looking forward to making a new home here at the North Reading Library and getting to know all the wonderful young patrons!"
